Protection you can rely on

Moisture cured urethanes have been around for years as they were invented in the 1940’s. What is fascinating is why the inventor chose to develop this technology when he started to develop his protective coatings.

The answers are many and varied:

  • Urethanes have really good flexibility, chemical resistance, durability and heat resistance.
  • Moisture cure polymers are single component, so do not require any mixing, which makes them really easy to use. They are also no limited by high relative humidity, like all other polymer coatings.
  • The moisture curing technology cures quickly and is not temperature dependant, and because moisture is plentiful and always available, the polymer cures fully and is therefore stable. What this means is that they do not react with contaminants and they are less affected by ultra-violet (UV) rays.
  • The curing reaction uses up any micro-moisture on the substrate, thereby eliminating the cause of any potential secondary corrosion reactions under the coating surface that invariably results in a loss of adhesion.

After commercializing his new technology in the 1980’s and 1990’s what very few people realised was that the inventor went back into the laboratory after he sold his business to upgrade and improve his formulations. As a result MCU-Coatings now has a 2-coat, thin film technology that, in independent testing, has achieved +25 years to first maintenance in a C5 environment using a ST3 surface preparation.

The use of a high-quality urethane base resins that are stable and have excellent performance fundamentals also means that MCU-Coatings do not need an extensive range of specialist coatings – like most other protective coating manufacturers. The primers are designed to adhere, the intermediate coatings are designed for high build, and together with the limited range of top coats the MCU-Coatings product suite can be applied almost anywhere and addresses over 90% of all protective coatings challenges.

MCU-Zinc

  • Surface tolerant single component, zinc-rich primer
  • Approved for Class B Slip Coefficient

  • Replaces epoxy zinc and performs better than inorganic zinc

MCU-Miozinc

  • Surface tolerant MIO/zinc filled universal primer. Outperforms inorganic zinc
    primers
  • High DFT tolerance – unlimited
  • Re-coatable by itself and compatible with most old coatings and metal alloys
  • Full or spot primer on hand and power tool cleaned, (wet/dry) abrasive blasted
    or UHP cleaned surfaces
  • Provides both barrier and galvanic protection.
  • Overcoatable by itself
  • Does not require Sa 2.5 for maximum performance
  • Tolerates flash rusting
  • Superior abrasion/impact resistance and long term flexibility
  • Recommended for immersion, splash zones and atmospheric exposure

MCU-Aluprime

  • High solids single component based on aluminium pigments primer for ferrous and non-ferrous substrates
  • Most surface tolerant primer
  • Low viscosity, penetrating sealer to replace penetrating epoxy sealers
  • Has unmatched adhesion and good wetting characteristics
  • Apply on hand and power tool cleaned, (wet/dry) abrasive blasted or UHP cleaned surfaces
  • Works well in splash zones or areas with permanent condensation

Intermediate and functional finishes

MCU-Mastic

  • Universal intermediate/barrier coating
  • Coloured topcoat for interior use where there is limited UV exposure and slight ambering is acceptable
  • Aromatic topcoat to replace epoxies
  • High resistance to atmospheric chemicals
  • Best choice in salt or fresh water immersion service
  • Ideal for use over MCU primers in ballast tanks and cargo holds
  • Use as a standard primer for non-ferrous and concrete surfaces
  • Approved for contact with potable water and food

MCU-Miomastic

  • Used as an intermediate/barrier coat over MCU’s universal primers to provide long term protection
  • High-solids, aromatic intermediate for atmospheric service
  • MCU-Miomastic contains a proprietary blend of moisture curing polyurea resin and MIO and has many application and performance advantages compared to epoxy mastics
  • For use on any marine, offshore, hydro, wastewater or other structure exposed to salt or fresh water or sewage treatment
  • Readily re-coatable and repairable
  • Used as a primer on non-ferrous and concrete surfaces, and indoors as a non-UV topcoat.

  • Liquid ceramic insulation coating
