Transmission Towers

Independent tests conducted in both the U.S. and in Europe have confirmed that:

a) Steel protected with 75μm of MCU-Miozinc primer has comparable performance to 125μm galvanisation when exposed to inland atmospheric exposure up to ISO Classification 12944-2 C3 Medium (Urban & Industrial atmospheres, moderate sulphur dioxide pollution, in coastal areas with low salinity).

b) A single coat of MCU-Miozinc at 100-125μm outperforms 125μm of galvanisation when the classification of the environment is equal or higher to ISO 12944-2 C4 High.

Our MCU-Zinc primer only requires a +25µm surface profile, does not leach zinc salts, and is not affected by low-level flash rust. It also does not have a maximum overcoat window.

Our standard specification to overcoat galvanised steel is MCU-Zinc at 150μm and MCU-Miotopcoat at 75μm DFT…. which is a much simplified 2-coat system and a more efficient 3-step process:

  1. Surface prep
  2. Apply primer
  3. Apply the topcoat

There are minimal weather restrictions and coatings can be applied all year round. They are touch dry within 10 minutes and are unaffected by moisture 15 minutes after the coating has been applied – not days!

When required, the use of MCU-Quickcure can reduce the recoat interval down to as little as 45 minutes.

Most importantly:

Just one more reason to join the MCU-Revolution

Our standard specification for overcoating galvanised steel is 150µm MCU-Zinc primer and 75µm MCU-Miotopcoat:
